A Partitioned Scheme for Coupling of FEM and DEM Simulations of Granular Materials

In this contribution, a simple uniaxial compaction of granular materials is considered in preparation for studying the collision behavior double-hull vessels filled with materials. The top compressing plate deformable and modeled by finite element method (FEM). particles using discrete (DEM) are compressed plate. To end, partitioned technique to couple continuum approach (FEM) particle discretization presented. Full agreement computed reaction force DEM pressure applied on FEM implies accuracy used coupling technique.
